Regional multipliers adjust the figures for the UK, US, Canada, and Australia to account for differences in labour costs, material pricing, and market conditions.
Contingency percentages are added on top of the base estimate to account for the unexpected issues that almost every renovation encounters — hidden wiring, damp problems, structural surprises, or simply changes of mind during the project. We recommend 10-15% for straightforward projects and 15-20% for older properties or complex renovations.
Data Sources and Accuracy
Our cost data is compiled from publicly available construction cost databases, trade body publications, contractor pricing surveys, and real-world project data. We review and update our cost models regularly to reflect current market conditions. However, renovation costs vary enormously based on location (even within the same city), contractor availability, material choices, project complexity, and timing. Our figures should be treated as general planning ranges, not precise predictions.
